Hi everyone,
I am the main author of GameStart. You may know me from the demoscene (xbarr/syndrome) or from a development forum on the Internet (eg. Gamedev.net where I usually go by the nickname of barr).
I have been writing software for 18 years and started on an Atari 520ST in ST Basic. In my early years I worked with a lot of programs made to ease the learning curve of game writing (GFA, STOS and AMOS among others). In order to make the move to 3d in these early days I made the switch to assembly but I quickly found myself building helper tools in various Basic languages to pump out data faster.
As a professional, after working a few years in the video game industry I began working on this project in the year 2001 convinced that writing games could be made much easier.
While the vision has been clear from day one, its implementation has changed shape a lot of times and the editor has gone through 3 complete revisions while being used in different commercial projects (in the game and industry sectors).
I hope you all enjoy GameStart, we put a lot of thought and time in it and with your help the best is definitively yet to come. I cannot wait to see what you make of this program.
Let's rock!

Hello all,
I'm François, usually known in the various internet communities as Astrofra (CGtalk, Polycount, Spinquad or TigSource...).
I'm yet another half-graphist, half-coder, probably more confident with CG, but long-time excited with game-dev as well.
I might be one of the earliest adopters of GameStart, both as an amateur and professional user.
If you want to see how I look like, see here :
If you want to look at my place, see here :
If you want to see how my computer art looks like, see here :

I look forward to hear from you, people, and sincerely hope you will find the GameStart Framework to be a valuable and efficient dev. tool.

Hello there,
I'm Romain. I'm a composer primarily but I'm having a hard time hiding my passion for game design and (modest) game scripting/programming.
I've had the privilege to use GS years before it was made "public", so to speak, for mock-uping an oldschool racing game but also in a professional game production context when we were making games at independent developer Yullaby.
As Yullaby, we released two commercial games with GS (previously known in private circles as nEngine/nEdit) and are still working on a 3rd one in our spare time (Astro GP). This is not the place for a testimony but with all my heart I want to thank Emmanuel for making GS because thanks to it, Yullaby secured a retail Wii deal and because we could make the impossible: Wii game that passed lot check in just 3 short months of dev, saving the studio at the time. We're all very grateful and you're in for a massage anytime you want!
I can see though why there's no real interest in releasing the Wii version of the framework now, since the platform is in decline and it would burden the team with too much support for now.
Back to me: I'm interested in GS especially for trying out a few interactive audio games ideas. I just love the editor, I've seen it come a long way in the last 3 or 4 years, and I'm eager to try something more personal with it this time.
GS team, you can count on my help if you need anything! I'm glad to spread the word about how awesome GS is and how ridiculously easy it is to create games with it.

Hi there,
my name is Heiko, started developing games 20+ years ago, first commercial game was i think 1991 on a commodore 64 in assembler. With a short break of... dunno... maybe 17 years or so ;) - i am now back in game development. I am working alone, so i do everything myself, including programming, graphics, audio effects and sometimes even music.
Reading about gamestart is like a dream coming true, this is what i have searched for the last 2 years. Well, i will now start playing around with gamestart beta and i think i will have a lot of questions in the future.
I have some experience in doing tutorials, if i find some time, i try to set up a few for gamestart. Here is a example of what i can do, tutorial wise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o80QufKgXN4
Keep up the work,
Heiko

Hi Heiko,
Nice to meet you and welcome to this forums. I am glad to see a veteran here ;).
Your input as a user is very important and I hope GameStart provides you with what you expect.
About the tutorials, just let me know about them and I will gladly add them to the website.
Cheers!

Hi all
my name is didier, i am 50 years old, lone wolf hobbyist
came to computers by the games (doom, duke nukem .. 15 years ago)
and now working as system/network admin since 10 years in a private office.
i am doing models, textures (free ones) by myself since i am an hobbyist, not an artist, i have my leisure time for this.
i made models for a little (short) mod of FarCry by the past (vircator) and had great fun with it, but the limits of the game editor (SDK) had stopped my efforts on it.
I am owning Leadwerks engine which have great lights too but physics are not so good to me.
I've just discovered this great engine and really think that my dream of creating my own game could be true with GS.
i would like to make an rc car racing game (like Re-volt or BigScaleRacing types)
even a level would make me very happy. The physics behavior of an engine is important for this kind of game such as rendering capabilities, hope i found the winner here.
glad to see experienced people around here.
hope GS become my favorite tool !
sorry for being so long...

Hi Didier,
Thank you for introducing yourself, for the praise and your patience with the issues you encountered so far.
I am 100% positive you can achieve a Revolt or BigScaleRacing game with GameStart.
As a matter of fact it is the technology behind an industrial grade car simulator (http://www.develter.com/) developed by the nice and competent people from Movida Production and used by a variety of road security companies so this is definitively a proven ground for GameStart.
Like any software this size it can be a bit hard to grasp but we try our best to keep things under control and not expose thousands of meaningless buttons to you. So that, hopefully, you may find your way around the editor gradually as you advance through your project.
Revolt is a nice nice game and, come to think of it, I have a nice model sitting somewhere that would just fit the bill for a RC car sample, best is that I can distribute this one :). So, I don't want to make a hard promise on the timeline for this but I am definitively going to provide you with the first few bricks for your project in the coming tutorials.
As always, I know there are a few people used to GameStart visiting this forum frequently so do not hesitate to ask for help, we'll do our best to help.
I too hope GS becomes your favorite tool ;)
PS: Found it!

Mmmmh, lot of nice & gifted people here, as it seems !
Hello Heiko & Didier!
Heiko I had a look at your website, and I was fond to discover your projects on the iPhone and their C64 origins.
It's nice to have a french-speaking fellow here, Didier. I can't wait to see what you will be able to achieve, but, to second Emmanuel, I'm positively sure that it's possible to create a compeling race game with GameStart.
Please continue to share with us, both feedback, issues or screenshots. Your work & comments are always a source of wisdom & inspiration, either to discuss the development roadmap, create new tutorials, and whatnot :)
... and of course, if you guys need anything, advice or some help on your assets modeling or conversion, just ASK :)
